It gives its reader a broad and rigorous start on industrial-strength synthesis. De Micheli's book is the most complete reference I know for the aspiring tool-builder,or for the tool-user who wants to know more of what's inside the design and synthesis tools at her desk.
The first hundred pages or so lay out mathematical basics. While an updated 2014 edition is available, this version is the best place to start for most beginners.. A great book to add to your craft/art library. I GROK this book.. The early Photoshop ad showing Marilyn Monroe holding Abraham Lincoln's arm is something I had not seen before.
If you haven't any background in the history of technology and want a very brief overview, this might be of interest. It starts with the basics and goes onto explain the advanced algorithms used in design automation. Also it has excellent essays on animation scholarship..
