This is a book about CHRISTMAS, a holiday celebrated by Christians so if you celebrate the holiday (& the birth of Christ) you wouldn't find it offensive. Why have lucid dreams? There are lots of reasons. Many of the food preparations are in the Traditional method: instructions to prepare edibles with Lacto-Fermentation a la Sally Falon, making milk and water kefir, and soaking/souring grains, soaking legumes/beans, soaking nuts/seeds, preparing bone broth & cooking soup with roots--all methods nearly lost with modern conveniences; there are many references to historical methods of food preparation ("in the olden days") and their health-giving properties, instructions for dry canning, and so much more. The story focuses on a terminally ill police detective whose partner had been murdered. However my consistent complaint throughout all Haynes books is that the pictures are ALWAYS difficult to make out. A sad commentary on Rizzoli, publishing and especially Vicente..
