This new graduate textbook in computer engineering offers a modern, up-to-date look at computer aided design of VLSI circuits at the functional and logic level by addressing an interesting topic in CAD for digital circuits: design synthesis of detailed specifications from abstract models. Topics covered include hardware modeling, compilation techniques for hardware models, high-level synthesis, logic synthesis, and library mapping algorithms. Course titles include Digital CAD, Advanced Logic Design or Complements of VLSI Design.

It's very clear and readable, too.. A very good BASIC textbook, intended for teaching high-schoolers the fundamentals, it's a good place to start for anyone who is just starting out in the machine arts. Again, captions would help (a lot) as well as focusing on projects in their entirety instead of random photos all over the place. Several millennia later, Plato warned against the ill effects of writing on human memory, despite being among the 10% of Athenians who could read and write. I am currently using this book to teach a class on Digital Circuit Synthesis. Most newsgroups and wikis allow for revisions even after posting something for all the wired world to see. Lots of rehashing of Petroski's book on the pencil and on Thoreau. The first of two fundamental differences in composition is the audience(s) that new media authors should (must?) consider as a result of the delivery method. Interesting look at Microsoft.. It hasn't. Needless to say, I eagerly anticipated the release of his
