The idea for the VW "Type 2" Commercial came from Ben Pon, a VW importer from the Netherlands, who was inspired by the crude but effective vehicles used to move goods around the Wolfsburg factory site. Introduced in 1949, the first Type 2s had the now sought-after split screens, and were produced as buses, campers, vans and pick-ups for almost 20 years. The VW bus has been used for many jobs: fire engine, ambulance, mobile home, cement mixer and school bus among others.

As the owner of nine new Jeeps of various models since 1980, I found it well worth the purchase price.. Using the metaphor (and analogy) of the pencil, Baron demonstrates that most of the resistance to how computers and other "new media" devices are affecting composition is no different than the age-old arguments against all new forms of communication mediums. In a book this size you couldn't expect an entire owners manual which is 6 thick volumes costing several hundred dollars from Chrysler. In a way, the book and its chapters or "Elements" are almost TOO wordyalmost a little tiring to read Regardless, it is certainly a must for Wolf fans and design aficionados. This book is good for upper-level undergraduate students who wish to begin their own research and need a good beginning point. De Micheli's book is the most complete reference I know for the aspiring tool-builder,or for the tool-user who wants to know more of what's inside the design and synthesis tools at her desk.
